I am brand new to the orientation called Intersubjectivity. As a Master's in Counseling student at Pacifica Graduate Institute, I found a copy of "The Intersubjective Perspective" and where I have been have been exposed to field of Self Psychology in the classes of Lionel Corbett. I have a question to pose for assistance as I begin to navigate this very very interesting, even exciting philosophical perspective.
Is the concept of "context" used in the identification of fundamental formations of psychological maladaptations due to insufficient or abusive relations with primary caretakers? As in the wonderful article by Robert Stolorow's daughter on play Equus, is the "context" that Alan is operating within, his psychodymanic struggle with the relationship with an over-controlling mother?
Also, is there anybody who might have some words of insight or referals to help me study the relationship between contextualism and what Jung almost called "complex" pscychology (but settled on analytical psychology). Are there any resources that describe the relationship between Jung's archetypal underpinnings of a "complex" and Stolorow's intersubjective contextualism? I am reserving Stolorow's and Atwood's books to be read (soon?) and will also bring my questions to Dr. Corbet who has written an article comparing Jung to Self Psychology. Perhaps I am asking simply, what is the difference between Jung's "complex" and Stolorow's "context"? Thank you.
