I think the intersubjectivistic understanding of relationships and meaning and the whole Derridean deconstructivist enterprise point to directions which can be considered to be polar opposites of each other. From a somwhat unsymphathetic point of view "intersubjectivism" can be built upon a model of perfect dyadic relationship, which "binds" the meaning. Whereas to the extent that I understand Derrida, there is never a dual relationship; there is always an "other" for the other that I encounter. One could perhaps say that what Derrida is trying to show is both the inescapability of an ideal, a myth like empathy and its impossibility. From such a perspective, the more traditional neutrality which allows the imaginary others of the patient to gain visibility would be a more mature, because a more tragic way of dealing with the impossibility of ddyadic relationships
