Despite the tragedy of September 11 the meeting took place as scheduled. Over 500 people filled the halls in San Francisco, proving that this community gathering was a compelling reason to travel and a rewarding way to meet with colleagues and friends. There was a special session held to talk about 9/11, and there is section of this site with related material. |
The 24th Annual International Conference on The Psychology of the Self will consider a central clinical issue of Self Psychology: how best to enhance the therapeutic experience of the patient. We approach this issue from the vantage point of exploring alternative theoretical perspectives.
Three panels will be presented in which the same case presentation will be responded to by clinicians from different theoretical perspectives, including the Boston Research Group on Change, Self Psychological Specificity Theory, Relational Perspective of Stephen Mitchell, the Self Psychological Forward Edge Perspective, Control Mastery Perspective and finally the Nonlinear Dynamic Systems Perspective.
The Optional Pre-Conference Workshops will cover Intersubjectivity, Art and Psychoanalysis, Infant and Mother Treatment, Self Psychology and the Work of Stephen Mitchell, Learning Disabilities and a Panel on Homosexuality.
Pre-Conference Courses will include Introduction to Self Psychology and Advanced Studies on Aggression in Self Psychology, Group Therapy and Couples Therapy.
