Summary

Eroticized fantasy is an intriguing phenomenon. It's compelling script implores understanding as to its divergent functions and motivations. This paper will look at erotic fantasy from three theoretical positions based on the work of Kohut, Stolorow and Atwood, and Lichtenberg, and underscore their similarities and differences.  Also, how fantasies change during the course of treatment, with an emphasis on different models of transference, types of therapeutic action, and a model of change.

Finally, a clinical illustration of a female patient whose intrusive erotic fantasies embody all three theoretical positions at given points in the treatment.
